ACRO & TUMBLING

Acro is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics. At DLS, we have also combined a tumbling series to our Acro classes, where dancers will train to do unqiue tricks and flips in a safe and professional environment.

BALLET

Ballet has defined the foundational techniques which are used in all dance genres. Your dancer will learn specific qualities to strengthen posture, flexibility, mobility and musicality. Qualities that disciplined dancers use in every genre or class. Ballet is mandatory for all dancers at DLS as we believe in training well-rounded dancers with a high level technical excellence.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modernjazzlyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork and is often done in bare feet. This style of dance has become very popular and can often be watched on multiple TV and Media sources.

HIP HOP

Hip hop dance is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. It is influenced by a wide range of styles like breakdancing, New Jack, Popping, Locking and Waacking.  Hip Hop is one of the main genres to help with each dancers style, dynamic and energy.

JAZZ

This high-energy dance has a liveliness that sets it apart from traditional dance forms, such as classical ballet. With strong technical training and a broad range of music, Jazz allows dancers to increase flexibility, strength and coordination.

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance is a dance style that embodies various aspects of balletjazzacrobatics, and modern dance. The style combines ballet technique with the freedom and musicality of jazz and contemporary. Lyrical emphasizes on displaying emotion and storytelling through music and movement.

STRETCH & CONDITIONING

Proper strength and conditioning allows an athlete to strengthen supporting muscles, even out muscle imbalances, increase mobility, correct posture, stabilize joints, learn new movement patterns and enhance coordination and peripheral skills. At DLS, we work with injury prevention specialists to help strengthen, introduce safe stretching and how to avoid over-training and burnout.

TAP

Tap is a unique style of dance involving specific and rapid footwork. The dancer's foot and shoe essentially act as a drum, and each part of the shoe makes a particular beat and sound. Dancers who train tap have a great understanding of musicality, rhythms and counting used to stay with the beat of the music.
